Inanimatealice

This term we are moving into digital storytelling… as part of the New Technologies – New Stories project with the K-12 Curriculum Directorate. We will be using technology to tell our stories. You will explore the genre of ‘mystery’ narrative. Specifically, the ‘elements’ of a mystery text and the structure, the language and various forms of narrative.

We will be closely studying ‘Inanimate Alice’ tells the story of Alice, a young girl growing up in the first half of the 21st century, and her imaginary digital friend, Brad.

Over ten episodes, each a self contained story, we see Alice grow from an eight year old living with her parents in a remote region of Northern China to a talented mid-twenties animator and designer with the biggest games company in the world.

At the same time you will be participating in the online program – Murder Under The Microscope. It is an eco-detective game based around the Murray-Darling Basin. This is your second year of participation, so you are familiar with the program. The program is based on the eco mystery genre and is told through an interactive medium around a narrative.

Your final assessment will be to create and develop a storyboard for a narrative. You will then select the most appropriate technology to tell your story. Choice will include either movie maker, imovie or photos.

You will document your learning through journal entries.

    WHAT I ENJOYED
I injoyed the images and music yhe most
    WHAT I FOUNED DIFFICULT
Reading the word that kept on bluring and flashing on and off.
    WHAT REALLY WORKED
I thought the ending was great because of the music and the it was set out
    NEXT TIME

WHAT I DID:I read the story guick and my eyes moved only where the words were. I was kind of disturbed by the music and moving pictures. Sometimes the words moved of the page to quick or got really fuzzy. But otherwise i enjoyed it.
WHAT I ENJOYED:I enjoyed story when they found the dad and became a family again, and the photo part.
WHAT I FOUND DIFFICULT: I thought it was difficult when the words were bluring and when pictures were flashing.
WHAT REALLY WORKED: When she found her dad because its nice to have a family.
NEXT TIME: Next time in the story i think that it should be explained more and go longer.

WHAT I DID? Firstly I read all of the words that came up on the page and looked at all of the pictures. I sometimes couldn’t read the words because they went away to quick and went blurry. I didn’t enjoy the movie as much as I did the first time I watched it.

WHAT I ENJOYED? Well I really enjoyed the music in the movie, I think it really set the scene. I also enjoyed the end when the girl found her dad. It was funny when the girl asked for a dog but her parents just laughed and said no and also when the girl asked to go to a restaurant to celebrate that they found her dad but there wasn’t a restaurant for around 500 miles from where they were.

WHAT I FOUND? I found it difficult to understand the words on the screen which I was trying to understand as much as I could and they really didn’t introduce me to Brad. I wanted to know that how was he a friend to the family and was he a real person or was he fake.

WHAT REALLY WORKED? I think that the mum and the daughter trying and finding the father which I thought was a beautiful way to end the story beacause without the mum and daughter trying to find the father, the father would of been stuck out there for ages and probably would of died.

NEXT TIME? I hope next time they pick a different story to write on and make that one interesting like Episode 1. Also I hope that when other people read these stories of different digital stories for there first time, that they pay attention to all the work you do on digital stories and try very hard to get the flow of digital story telling.

    14/5/09 my birthday
WHAT I DID,i read the story quickly but acuratley, the music was different and the words weren’t clear and the images were cofusing at times.

WHAT I ENJOYED, taking pictures with the ba-xi and the ineractive stuff

WHAT I FOUND DIFFICULT.reading the words and following the story,it also lost me a bit it went on and on and on.

WHAT REALLY WORKED.the interactive stuff like the photos that got the thumb up but the rest could have been better.i guess the story line was differnt in ways.

NEXT TIME.i’ll be ready for it and i hope it will be better than no.1. and i hope it’ll be more interactive.i will say don’t expect that it will be good.

What i did: the sound, images was intresting and exsiting. My eyes scaned left to right.

What i enjoyed:the most intresting part for me was when she showed the ba xi and i also liked when they got really worried.Their was a bit of a cliff hanger at some stages.

What i found difficalt:When i was reading it was a bit difficalt because the words were flashing so it was a bit hard.It was hard to understand the story from begining to end.

What really worked:the sound effect because it told you that something bad or intresting.when it showed the pitchures.

Next time:I dont think that i will that prepared, maybe.I hope next time it will be better then episode1.

hay miss O’rouke its grace i was on the computer and i was wathcing caught in the crowd and i figured out what the word’s mean. When someone is getting bullyed and all the other people dont tell a teacher or parent or don’t even stand up to the bully and also that most bullies end up as criminal’s.I also feel that watching this video as taught me to stand up against bullies and not just be one of the crowd.
